I just delivered new tunics to the local shop that carries some of my clothing. Beyond Main is Historic Downtown Smithfield, VA is a unique little boutique with fun styles of clothing , jewelry, and art including several local designers and artists.
Working with these tips in the dye studio, reminded me of all the different type of fabrics and garments that I have dyed, printed, and sewed over the years. The fabric is what makes these tops great to wear, in my opinion. They are made from ring-spun, jersey cotton in a 3.5 ounce medium/light weight. It makes them so comfortable in many seasons and great for layering. These tops are so nice and flattering on so many different body types. A slight crew neck and draped sides give them a sporty, casual look. But can be dressed up with a sleek skirt or pants and some bold accessories.
A lot of clothing today is made of rayon. This fabric is a semi-synthetic made from wood pulp and chemicals. It is a very weak fabric, especially when wet, so really hard to care for. Have you ever noticed how some clothing just looks like a limp rag after you wash it?
This is what , I feel, is part of the problem with cheap “fast fashion.” The clothes/fabrics are such poor quality they fall apart after minimal use and so we have to purchase more and more. And don’t get me started on the horrible labor conditions of the people that make the clothes.
Anyway, I hope my local friends get to check out Beyond Main and our charming downtown here in Smithfield. For everyone else I am working setting up my online store so make sure you sign up for the newsletter below so you can get all the updates. I am a little behind since dealing with a kitchen renovation, due to a water leak, during a pandemic. More on that later.
I you get a chance, let me know your favorite color combinations, always like to try new things.
Always, Angelia
