Inspiration from Artist Judith Bergerson
This post is a little teaser about how I create a new series or collections when, I plan my art work. Since I work in fabric it usually starts with a color story and of course texture.
The colors I am using currently, tend to follow the seasons and nature. I use my garden for much of my inspiration, especially now that we are living in a Covid 19 world. This is fall and the colors are reflected in my jackets and scarves. This has been a small group of pieces this year so I may explore more of these colors in the near future and cross over with spring.
I dye my fabrics first and play with the color and patterning that happen spontaneously with had dyeing. Next, I will add more texture and pattern with screen printing or hand block printing over the base dye color. With notebooks full of ideas and swatches I have plenty to keep me busy.
I keep the silhouettes or shapes of my clothing pieces on a more simple, unstructured style and really let the fabrics be the standouts in each design. And because I sew all the clothing myself and sometimes combine up-cycled fabrics or other garments it makes each piece one-of-a-kind.
I said this was a teaser post, because I am working on a longer-hopefully with video instructional article on planning and mood board ideas for your art and creative work.
Finally I do have one show coming up (with all mask and social distance rules applied) November 7, 2020 at Peace Hill Farms in Charles City, Virginia.
Since this is the only show scheduled for the rest of the year, I will be posting things for sale here so make sure you sign up for the Newsletter below so you can keep up with all the things happening.
