I was able to grab some of the last flowers before the rain and wind beat them down.
Gardening Southern Virginia
The garden season is winding down here in Southeast Virginia. We are near the coast, and do have a longer growing season, so it can be tricky knowing when to prune and cut back all the different plants. I even have a couple of gardenia blooms again this late in the year, and the Camilla’s are ready to burst open.
Displaying Cut Flowers
Since I love cut flowers I have been so happy with my Zinnias this year, they have brought so much beautiful color, well into the fall. These are some of the best flowers for late season. Another interesting thing is all the variations you get in shape and colors from a little package of seeds. I have cut several to save the seeds and see if I can grow my favorites again next year.
Collect and Display
I have been collecting little bottles and jars forever. I remember digging them out of the ground when I was a kid. Some of these in the photos are really old and some newer and just what I like. Setting up groupings of my collections and using them in my life is something I love to do- always wanted to be a window display stylist when I was younger.
Since we are finally finishing up our kitchen remodel I have paired down a lot of my items, and moved everything to a small glass cabinet instead of the large china hutch we had in the past. I also love this plant/garden table that SA made for me out of an old door and some scrap metal pieces and turned legs from an old broken table.
Collecting anything can be anything that makes you happy, but I really think that using and displaying the items is so important so you can enjoy them all the time.
What do you all like to collect? How do you display the things you enjoy?
